In some card games one suit is called a ‘trump’ suit (let’s say Hearts), which means if you do not have a card of any other suit which is led (let’s say, Diamonds) and do not think your partner can win it, you can play a card of the ‘trump’ suit (for instance a low value trump card, like a 2 or 3) to take the trick.
So worst in life is a man who does not try. He does not even start the race.
He is ‘trumped’ or beaten, by the man who started but did not finish.
Who in turn is beaten by the man who came dead last.
So while much attention is give in the media to Olympic gold medal winners, we are all in the game of life.
Some of us were beaten before we started and never try.
Some of us have been so badly harmed we have given up and stopped trying.
Some are still trying but coming last.
