China Grows Hungry

(Tom: Blind Freddie can see with so much of our food capacity owned by the Chinese that this food shortage in China poses a potential threat to our food supply. The least we can do is start to expand our production capacity to meet future shortages. The Bradfield irrigation scheme and others like it that would divert east flowing water over the Great Divide and into the Murray Darling is looking like a very good plan at present.)

Food shortages and economic shortfalls drive Beijing to further extremes.

The leadership of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) knows what’s coming to the people of China: food shortages. That’s the reason behind Beijing’s latest draconian edict to the people, the so-called “Clean Plates Campaign.” Once enacted, the new law will limit the amount of food that people can order at a restaurant and may even extend into what amounts Chinese citizens can consume in their own households.

This latest totalitarian move by the CCP comes on the heels of Beijing’s very public arrest of Hong Kong media mogul Jimmy Lai, whom Beijing designated a threat to national security. The two may not seem related, but evidently, freedom of speech and freedom of dining are both considered by the Party to pose national security risks.

Unfortunately, China has seen a significant rise in China’s food prices, particularly pork, which is the national staple. As of this past July, an almost 90 percent year-over-year rise in pork prices was recorded, and overall food prices rose 10 percent over the same time period.

The Party rightly fears that food shortages and the accompanying inflation can lead to widespread civil unrest in China. What’s more, the shortages aren’t expected to end anytime soon, either. In fact, they will likely grow worse.

Two Types Of People

Two Types Of People

Because lies are not the exclusive domain of governments and insanity and unethical conduct are also rife in private enterprise, I think a better statement of it is “People who do as they are told by authority and people who can look and observe truth and lies.”

The four drug companies that make most of the vaccines have been fined billions of dollars for criminal activity yet are exempted from liability for deaths and injuries caused by vaccines. Makes perfect sense… …for drug company profits.

Human Rights Video #9: No Unfair Detainment

One of my principle concerns with the current scene is the rapidly escalating speed with which human rights are being trampled. The lack of peace in certain regions is proof positive that these principles are actually valid and needed, more than ever.

This trend needs to be reversed. The entrance point is educating people that they do have rights. Hence this post and the request you share these posts so more people are aware of and insist upon their rights so that we can live in a peaceful society.

Seaweed Decoy For SARS-CoV-2

A new study suggests that an extract from seaweed may outperform the drug Redesivir.

The extract, called RPI-27—found in the same type of seaweed that you might eat in sushi—helps trap the virus before it can infect human cells. Researchers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute tested the extract in the cell studies, along with the blood thinner heparin, which has a similar effect.

When someone is infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, a spike-shaped protein in the virus attaches to a receptor on a human cell and then inserts its genetic material. But if another molecule with the right fit is available to act as a receptor instead of human cells, the virus can attach to it instead, trapping the virus in place as it harmlessly degrades.

“You’ve effectively blocked infection by serving as a decoy,” says Jonathan Dordick, the lead researcher and a professor of chemical and biological engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. “Effectively, it interferes with and it pulls away the virus, and therefore the virus can’t bind to the surface of the cell. Once it’s latched on to by these compounds—these seaweed extracts or heparin—it likely decomposes and it would not be effective.”

In cell tests in the lab, RPI-27 was nearly 10 times as active as remdesivir at blocking infection, meaning a much smaller dose was needed to inhibit infection.
