Magnesium’s Crucial Role in Cellular Energy Production Revealed

Magnesium Cellular Energy Production

Magnesium is a crucial player in your body’s energy production, and new research is shedding light on its importance at the molecular level. A study published in Science Advances focused on an enzyme vital for maintaining energy balance in your cells.

Scientists have now captured detailed images of this enzyme in action, both before and after its reaction, with magnesium playing a starring role. These snapshots reveal how magnesium helps align the molecules involved in the reaction, much like a skilled dance instructor positioning partners for an intricate routine.

(Tom: This highlights the importance of maintaining an adequate magnesium intake as most people are deficient. And why I bolster the magnesium content of my top bars and powders by adding magnesium to deliver a minimum of 25% of the RDI.)

Closed-Loop Gardening: A Step-by-Step Approach to Eco-Friendly Gardening

Closed Loop Garden

In sustainable living, closed-loop systems are increasingly recognized as the gold standard, and gardening is no exception. Surprisingly, despite its profound benefits, many gardeners have not prioritised establishing a closed-loop system in their gardening practices. This overlooks a critical opportunity: reducing reliance on external resources can significantly lessen our environmental impact while cultivating a flourishing garden.

‘An act of war’: Big Food intentionally addicting kids to toxic foods

Big Food Target Kids Harmful Cereal

U.S. food companies ‘using toxic ingredients’ that are banned overseas

American food manufacturers (Big Food ) targets young consumers in the U.S. and use thousands of ingredients they don’t include in identical products sold in other countries to to get them addicted to unhealthy products.

McDonald’s French fries, contain 11 ingredients in the U.S., but only three in other countries, and Skittles, “which uses 10 different artificial food dyes” in the U.S. — and titanium dioxide, which is “banned in Europe because it can cause DNA damage.”

Kellogg’s was singled out for “targeting little children,” after pledging in 2015 to remove artificial food dyes from its cereal products by 2018.

But they never did, they lied about it and they started to create new cereals that were targeting the smallest of children, using the most popular toddler songs, like ‘Baby Shark’ and Disney’s ‘Little Mermaid.’

How pomegranate puts chemo and radiation to shame

Pomegranate vs Cancer Stem Cells

Ever since chemotherapy and radiation became the ‘standard of care,’ oncology has been in the Dark Ages, often causing more harm and human suffering than it alleviates. Could the scientific community finally be waking up to the incomparable cancer-killing power of foods to cure what conventional treatment only makes worse?

One of the most important discoveries in biology and medicine of the past fifteen years is that cancer stem cells are largely responsible for the failure of conventional cancer treatment. These cells, which represent a small population of tumor cells (~ 1:1000), are cancer cells characterized by stem cell properties such as self-renewal and the ability to give rise to all cell types found in a particular cancer sample. These cells drive tumor development, progression, metastasis and drug resistance and are highly resistant to chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments. To the contrary, these conventional treatments actually increase their number and malignancy.1,2   Worse, conventional radiotherapy appears capable of converting non-cancerous breast cells into cancer stem cells.

Two recent studies have looked at the effects of a pomegranate extract on cancer stem cells.

Study review shows dozens of health problems from ultraprocessed food

Ultraprocessed Food

  • A 2024 systematic review of the literature confirms the results of past studies: the higher your exposure to ultraprocessed food, the higher your risk of adverse health outcomes, including 32 health parameters
  • Exposure to ultraprocessed food had a dose-dependent response on metabolic, cancer, mental, respiratory, heart and gastrointestinal conditions, as well as declining cognition, obesity and premature death
  • Recognizing the link between how you feel and ultraprocessed products may be challenging as one physician found when he experimentally increased his energy intake to 80% for four weeks and experienced multiple changes, including feeling 10 years older, which he didn’t attribute to his diet until he stopped eating it
  • Americans eat more ultraprocessed products than any other country, and according to one survey, people would eat more and pay more if the products were “healthier” and promised benefits such as sleeping better, having more energy or improving brain function
  • Data show 73% of the food at the grocery store is ultraprocessed. Don’t be fooled by lab-made, plant-based, pseudo-foodstuffs promoted by the industry as healthy. Change one ingredient at a time, and start with linoleic acid, one of the most destructive ingredients in your diet

Some of the best vegetables to grow in times of crisis

Harvested Carrots

  • During times of crisis, staple foods and plants you know will grow well are ideal; it’s not the time to be trying out experimental varieties
  • Choose vegetables that can be canned, fermented or pickled so you can eat them at your leisure, or those that can be stored for months without the need for refrigeration
  • Top foods to plant in troubled times include potatoes, green beans, heirloom onions, carrots, winter squash and okra
  • In addition to providing you with fresh vegetables without a trip to the grocery store, gardening is a simple way to reduce stress — another important benefit during times of crisis

Don’t underestimate the power of a good walk

Walking Barefoot In Forest

  • Daily walking is one of the most effective ways to stay fit and active
  • Regular exercise, including activities as simple as walking, can rejuvenate your mitochondria and reduce the risk of chronic age-related diseases like heart disease, high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes and cancer
  • Walking outdoors, particularly in a forest, may offer even more significant psychological benefits, including a reduction in negative moods and feelings of depression, tension, anxiety, anger, fatigue and confusion, and an increase in positive mood and vigor
  • Moderate exercise, which includes walking, improves all-cause survival better than vigorous exercise
  • The largest health gains from walking occur when going from being sedentary up to 7,000 or 8,000 steps a day, continuing to about 12,000 daily steps

Ten new studies detail health risks of 5G

  • Several studies published between 2022 and 2024 underscore the health risks posed by 5G technology
