“We can therefore justifiably stress our particular point of view with regard to the proper development of the human psyche, even though our knowledge be incomplete. We must aim to make it permeate every educational activity in our national life.
“Public life, politics and industry should all of them be within our sphere of influence.
“…we have made a useful attack upon a number of professions. The two easiest of them naturally are the teaching profession and the Church: the two most difficult are the law and medicine.
“If we are to infiltrate the professions and social activities of other people I think we must imitate the Totalitarians and organize some kind of 5th column activity. Let us all, therefore, very secretly be ‘5th columnists’.
“I feel we need a long-term plan of propaganda… Don’t let us mention Mental Hygiene (with capital letters) though we can safely write in terms of mental health…”

That was 85 years ago. Looking around at the average intelligence level, morality, ethics and consequent problems with crime, drugs, sexual perversions etc. I’d say the psychiatrists were remarkably successful! Unfortunately.
If we as parents and teachers do not instill in our children respect for one another, tolerance for differences, that there is right and wrong, the difference between right and wrong, that actions have consequences and that regardless of what has happened in the past one has the ultimate responsibility for the actions one takes in the present, then we are, by our neglect, cocreating a society where psychiatry’s evil intentions are widely manifest, as is happening at present.
