“Borders is Closing (A Saturday afternoon; and the passing of a friend.)”

Derelict Library
I will miss the smell of books.
Bound paper. Ink on a page.
And their coffee.
A place to sit, on Pacific Avenue
out of the rain
and write.
It was my version of
Hemingway’s “clean, well-lighted place”
(without the despair, loneliness
or nihilistic taint.)
There is something that feels sacred
about a repository of books
for sale or not.
And Borders was one
of the places where
from time to time
I went to write, to peruse
and to wonder at
the thoughts of others.
Stacks of friends-in-paper
of like minds
or not.
A place to go, and touch pages.
To stand in the lighted space, and feel
smooth
paper beneath my fingertips.
And feel the words
of others
in my eyes.
It’s not that I mind Amazon
or Kindle or Nook
and the like.
I’ve shopped the pixel places
but
there is something holy about
“the bookstore”
as an intersection of intellectual
pathways.
A nexus.
A springboard of
dimensional collaboration.
Its occupants were literate.
Thirsty for
words.
Capable of considering
the ideas of another in order to
reach the lofty places – the great open places in
their minds.
Or simply to scratch the itch
of curiosity.
I wonder if the Library at
Alexandria
was like that
before it was sacked.

The image is of one of the tiny detailed dioramas that artist Lori Nix designed for her post-apocalyptic vision. She built the 3-D scenes in her living room on nights and weekends with the help of an assistant, with each one taking anywhere from two to fifteen months to complete. Nix then shot the dioramas on normal 8×10 film, making her minuscule creations — measuring about 20 x 24 x 72 inches — appear nearly indistinguishable from full-size scenes.

Man walks into a restaurant…

“Hello.”

“Hi, table for one, please.”

“Sure, and your name.”

“Little.”

“Great. And can you show your vaccination card?”

“I could… …can you tell me who my server will be?”

“Um, looks like Brad will be your server tonight.”

“Great. Can you show me Brad’s vaccination card?”

“Um…”

“And also, can you provide me with proof that Brad is not a carrier of HIV, Hepatitis A or B, or any other communicable diseases?”

“Um…”

“Also, I would prefer not to be served by someone who is on or uses recreational drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, meth, fentanyl, etc, so if you could provide me with Brad’s most recent tox screen, that would be great.”

“Um… Let me get the manager for you.”

“That would be great, thanks.”

I Know My Place

Allyson Felix

When #AllysonFelix became pregnant, Nike offered her 70% less on her contract due to the pregnancy.

Fueled by Nike telling her “Know your place and just run”, Felix dropped Nike and got busy creating her own brand of running shoes #saysh for athletes like her.

She will now be running in the Olympics in Japan this summer wearing them as she fronts them under the banner “I Know My Place”.

“I’ve been asking for change and speaking up, and it just got to a point where I needed to create that myself.”

THEY ARE MAKING IT UP AS THEY GO ALONG!

Do you believe ANYTHING the authorities say at this point?
I don’t.
Did you hear the audio recording of a lass who rang the laboratory listed on the NSW health site for COVID testing and they said they are still using the PCR test to see if a person has COVID or not (despite the inventor of the test, Kary Mullis saying it was not designed to test for infection and two German tourists taking the Portuguese government to court for compulsory detainment on the basis of a positive PCR test and the court after viewing the evidence agreed that it was not suitable for the task and the CDC coming out last week saying the test could not even tell if the person had the flu or COVID. In other words the whole scam has been a fraud from day one!) AND THE LAB HAS NO WAY OF KNOWING IF THE PERSON HAS THE DELTA VARIANT OR NOT! The caller asked from where the government were getting the data? The lab personnel said to ask the government.
THEY ARE MAKING IT UP AS THEY GO ALONG!

Seeds

Seeds

“When you eat fruit, don’t throw seeds, dry them, put them in a bag and leave them in the car. When you’re on the road, throw them out the window in areas where there’s no trees. Nature will take care of germination. In Asian countries like Thailand and Malaysia, they’ve been practicing it for years and now they have fruits everywhere. So let’s throw seeds on EARTH NOT in the trash.“
