Violence On The Language

“A man who deliberately inflicts violence on the language will almost certainly inflict violence on human beings if he acquires the power. Those who treasure the meaning of words will treasure truth, and those who bend words to their purposes are very likely in pursuit of anti-social ones.” – historian Paul Johnson

Your Future Self

I once heard an interesting dissertation on whether the present causes the future or the future causes the present.

“That’s ridiculous!” I hear some say.

Is it? I mean, we all know that if you hit your thumb with a hammer you will get a sore thumb. The present act of missing the nail and striking the thumb will cause future pain in the thumb.

But what about the desire to eat something in the future necessitating you work today to earn money to buy food so you can eat tomorrow. Did not the desire to be eating tomorrow govern what you did with your time today? Does that not make tomorrow cause over today?

I raise this philosophical point to ask you whether or not you have consulted your 2033 future self lately about the sort of shape you would like to be in health and fitness wise in ten years?

Or maybe I should ease into that question by asking you what are you grateful for today that you did in the past?

Maybe it is worth some time to make a few notes on where you would like to be in 10 or 20 years time with regards your health and fitness. What you would like to be capable of doing with your body.

I sometimes say to youngsters, “Ask your parents, aunts and uncles the degenerative diseases from which they suffer and, if they had their time over again, what lifestyle changes they would make to prevent those conditions from manifesting.”

Maybe ask your future self if they would like to dodge those conditions. Because it’s a lot easier to prevent a problem than it is to fix one. Especially health problems. They are far easier to prevent than cure.

There’s more than one old saying that recognises this.

A stitch in time saves nine.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I encourage you not to put off doing this exercise as life all too easily gets in the way. Right now open however you allocate times and tasks for yourself and make a note to consult your future self.

When you have done it, if I can be of any assistance in helping you attain your dietary goals, call or write me.

I can guarantee you without a shadow of a doubt your future self will be ever so grateful you did!

Box Divvy

One of my newsletter subscribers wrote me last week: This is a cracker newsletter edition, thank you.

I’m doing my part and now run a weekly food hub. I lost my job in May due to standing my ground. I won’t be bullied on this…

…The hub supports local farmers and growers from many states, mostly NSW, Qld and Vic, taste fab, last longer than anything I have ever bought from the supermarket grocery, as good if not better than organic at half the bloody price! Over 200 hubs from Coffs to Canberra atm, maybe you want to look into it, and or speak with them and chat about their work in your articles? See BoxDivvy.com.au.

I see it as my revenge on supermarkets! Fresh produce but also many pantry items, clean meats, bakery and more. Hey, they may even love your products! Worth a look for you I reckon. My 2c worth.

Anyway hope you and yours are happy healthy and well.

Coming Home

A friend posted: Years ago I learned something from Brené Brown that I still use every single day:

When you get home to your spouse/kids/dog etc..
Before you open the door
Put a smile on your face!

It doesn’t matter how your day went. Or what you’re doing next. Or if you’re starving.

For 30 seconds, at least pretend that you’re elated to see them.

Make them feel like you were looking forward to getting back home.

After all, they’re your favorite people in the whole world. I hope.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “That seems like a cheesy, tiny thing, man. Hardly an earth-shattering revelation.”

But your #attitude sets the tone for the rest of the evening within 15 seconds of walking in the door.

So really, it’s not tiny at all. It’s a huge deal.

Because you come home every day. And the things you do every day grind on you.

Jordan Peterson says if you can fix 25 little things like “coming home,” you will have an extraordinary life.

Taking your family to Disneyland is insignificant.

Your kid’s expensive birthday party will be forgotten within weeks.

Coming home?

That’s your whole life. Fix it.

Start today.
