According to Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, the Soviet Government was responsible for killing 60 million of its citizens. He wrote:

Almost true.
There is such a thing as death – for the body.
For the spirit there is amnesia.
We forget our previous existences.
Which is a shame as we keep repeating past mistakes.
