I would add that the means of self defense in a post-apocalyptic world enables you to defend self, others and what you have created. History has taught us nothing if we do not recognise that.
Intelligence alone did not save Tibet from invasion by arguably the dumbest troops in the current era.
You need an appropriate balance of force and intelligence. Nothing else guarantees long-term survival against all eventualities.
