From one of my favourite artists, Stevie Nicks

Klonopin is in the Valium family, but Valium is fuzzy and Klonopin is insidious because it’s so subtle that you can hardly tell you took it. I got through 1986 and 1987. Thank God I’d already written the words for my record The Other Side of the Mirror. But what started happening was that if I didn’t take it, my hands started to shake. I felt like I had a neurological disease or Parkinson’s. I started not being able to get to Lindsey Buckingham’s house on time, and I would get there and everybody was drinking, so I’d have a glass of wine. Don’t mix tranquilizers and wine. Then I’d sing horrific parts on his songs, and he would take the parts off. I was hardly on Tango of the Night, which I happen to love.
The next six years were terrible. Looking back on it, I think this therapist was basically a groupie. He loved hearing stories of rock and roll and he started upping my dose. He watched me go from a beautiful, 125-pound, newly sober woman who had the world at her feet to a 170-pound woman who had the lights go out in her eyes.
Finally, in 1993, I’d had enough. I said, “Take me to a hospital.” I went in for 47 days, and it made Betty Ford look like a cakewalk. My hair turned gray and my skin molted. I could hardly walk. You can detox off heroin in 12 days. Coke is just a mental detox. But tranquilizers—they are dangerous. I was terrified to leave, and I came away knowing that that would never happen to me again.
I learned so much in that hospital. I wrote the whole time I was there, stuff that I consider to be some of my best writing ever. I learned that I could have fun and laugh and cry with amazing people and not be on drugs. I learned that I could live my life and still be beautiful and fun and still go to parties and not even have to have a glass of wine. I never went to therapy again after that—why would I?

If you are tying to conceive…

Researchers reviewed 34 trials involving 2,876 couples who were undergoing treatments like in vitro fertilization and sperm injections. Most of the men involved had low sperm counts or motility.
The research team found that, if the male half of the couple took antioxidants, the couple was more likely to get pregnant and have a succesful pregnancy. Other small trials have shown positive effects of antioxidants on sperm motility and concentration.
Antioxidants help reduce damage done by reactive oxygen species, which damage sperm cells and make it harder for couples to conceive.

Too Much Iron?

If you want to reduce the amount of iron your body absorbs,
1. Don’t take an iron supplement,
2. Don’t take a multivitamin containing iron,
3. Catechins in tea bind strongly with iron and reduce it’s absorption. I don’t recommend drinking with meals but drinking tea with your iron laden meals, like steak, will reduce the iron absorption.
4. 1. Vitamin C increases iron absorption so don’t take a vitamin C supplement with meals, take it with vitamin E and something fatty to increase the utilisation of the E at other than meal times.
2. Phytates in grains and flavonoids in vegetables bind strongly with iron so keep up the veggie intake.
3. Minimise the dietary intake of ingredients rich in iron, like red meat and spinach. If you are to have a dietary ingredient rich in iron, have plenty of flavonoid rich vegetables with the meat or grains at the same time as your spinach.

Spear a Hangover

To reduce the severity of a hangover, order a side of asparagus. When South Korean researchers exposed a group of human liver cells to asparagus extract, the extract suppressed free radicals and more than doubled the effects of two enzymes responsible for metabolizing alcohol.

Overweight = Under Nourished?

We’re Getting Fat Because We Eat Too Little of Key, Critical Nutrients!
I have just added this as tip number 73. in my chapter on weight loss tips in my book. (http://www.DefeatDegenerativeDisease.com)
73. Make sure your diet is adequate in these nutrients or use one or more supplements to improve your intake. A deficiency of each of these nutrients is linked to increased fat retention.
Chromium (balances blood sugar levels that control hunger)
Vitamins B6 and B12 (both involved in converting calories to energy, so the calories are not as easily stored as fat)
University of Rochester researchers reported overweight and obese children are more likely than kids of normal weight to be deficient in iron. (Many overweight women are also low in iron.)
Amanda Prasad, MD. from Wayne State University is an expert on the mineral zinc. Insufficient zinc in the diet causes muscle tissue loss. This slows the metabolism and causes weight gain.
