Carrot Rainbow!
Did you know carrots were originally purple, and occasionally, yellow and white? In the late 16th century, Dutch farmers used mutant strains of the heirloom carrot, by crossing yellow and white ones, which gradually developed the common sweet orange carrot we have today.
The purple pigment in heirloom carrots is anthocyanin. Anthocyanins are a type of flavonoid, which give many fruits and vegetables their deep rich colours. They have anti-oxidant effects, and may also have anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, and even cancer-preventing effects.
Some think the reason the orange carrot became so popular in the Netherlands was in tribute to the emblem of the House of Orange and the struggle for Dutch independence. While this is possible, it also might have just been because orange carrots are sweeter and often more plump.
Not Able to Buy Iodine in UK
I responded to a friend request on one of my social media sites. She replied:
“Hullo Tom,
Thank you for your message. I will look into your interesting website and blog tomorrow, I am off to bed now, but I thought to tell you about something which just amazes me, you cannot buy iodine in the UK any more!?! All of a sudden iodine can only be bought by someone who is licensed to buy it!”
Wow! The insanity continues to accelerate!
Tea and citrus products could lower ovarian cancer risk, new UEA research finds
If you want to really reduce your risk, lok into the details of the article and note what are the active ingredients in the beneificial foods. They are flavonoids (anthocyanins, flavonols and flavanones). Anthocyanin pigments and associated flavonoids have demonstrated ability to protect against a myriad of human diseases, are predominant in teas, honey, wines, fruits, vegetables, nuts, olive oil, cocoa, and cereals.
I just searched in Google for “foods highest in flavanoids” and Mr. Google returned the following:
Good sources of flavonoids include all citrus fruits, berries, ginkgo biloba, onions (particularly red onion, parsley, pulses, tea (especially white tea and green tea), red wine, seabuckthorn, and dark chocolate (with a cocoa content of seventy percent or greater).
In my top bars and powders I do not have pulses or red wine. The rest of the list are in my ingredients list.

The Truth About Gluten
I know I mentioned this a few days ago but I am going to repeat it here. Watch this video! No, that wasn’t strong enough. WATCH THIS VIDEO!
I cannot possibly overestimate the power of the data in this video. So many of the elements of my research and recipe development over the past 6 years are encapsulated in this doctor’s talk:
Next time you think of going to the movies or watching a DVD, view this instead.

www.FulvicMinerals.com.au
Since a speaker on the Ty Bollinger video series on defeating cancer with natural remedies mentioned the power of fulvic minerals to nourish and detoxify the body, I have been busier than ever shipping them.
In fact, I had a Naturapath call who was amazed that in 25 years of practice she had never heard of them. She ordered the fulvic minerals and some of my bars
I had this exchange with one of the gentlemen who purchased them and I thought it may be of use or benefit to you.
Tom: Have you noticed any difference with the minerals?
Some people do, some don’t so you’re not obligated to. 🙂
Peter: The first two days after taking it I was very tired and unable to think properly. After that I am OK, but I do not notice any difference to before. My wife said much the same.
Tom: That’s interesting. It may have been a detoxifying effect of the Fulvic Acid that caused the tiredness. I understand it has a free-radical scavenging action.
Peter: I am a little surprised that I feel no benefit, but not surprised at the reaction, however that may have had nothing to do with the minerals, we never know. I am convinced that I should take it every day for overall health so I am glad to have it.
Tom: I was not going to say that because it sounds like a sales pitch coming from a vendor, but I share your philosophy.
I take about 20-30 supplements with my Nutri-Blast powder each morning.
When people observe me with my morning routine the reaction varies from interest to horror. I am often asked why I take that many. My response is that, despite the 140 ingredients I put in my powder and eating two of my 190 ingredient bars most days, there are powerful ingredients I am not allowed to put in my products.
The next most common question is, “Do you notice a difference?”
I reply, “To be brutally honest, I don’t. I take them because I know from my research that long-term, the body does far better on top quality nutrition than it does on poor quality or no nutrition.”
Hmmm… …now I have committed this to writing I should put it in my next newsletter with a list of what I take and why. Some will be interested in it.
Anyway, enjoy your weekend Peter!
The vitamins I take and why by Tom Grimshaw.
NOTE: Please do not interpret this article as an endorsement of this supplement regime as one you should follow. It is merely what I am experimenting on with my body as a result of my research into nutrition and health.
Acetyl L-Carnitine – Antioxidant, helps the body produce energy, supports brain function and healthy memory.
Alpha Lipoic Acid – Antioxidant that functions in both water and fat, helps turn glucose into energy, helps recycle C and Glutathione, increases the production of glutathione, can cross blood\brain barrier and work in all parts of nerve cell to prevent damage.
Astaxanthin – Most potent antioxidant, naturally prevents sunburn, potent anti inflammatory, protects brain. 500-1,000 times more powerful than vitamn E.
Vitamin B1 – Used quickly if doing lots of mental work. (100mg in 47 minutes.)
Multi B – B group vits are involved in the metabolism of carbs, fats and proteins and are important for the body’s energy producing reactions.
Vitamin B12 – Boost red blood cell production, energy, metabolism, maintain central nervous system.
Bacopa monieri\Brahmi – improves memory and concentration.
Vitamin C – Antioxidant, synergistic with vitmain E.
Co-Enzyme Q10 – to help maintain healthy heart, boost body’s energy reserves, stamina and endurance. Comes in two forms. The normal one is unbiquinone, OK for people under 40 but less readily utilised by older bodies. Ubiquinol, the reduced version, is more readily absorbed by older bodies.
According to leading experts who are on the cutting edge of natural health, it’s critical to supplement with CoQ10 as you age. After the age of 30, natural levels of CoQ10 begin to diminish. By the age of 50, your CoQ10 levels may be too low to support optimal heart function. By age 70, your levels can become so low they can actually accelerate aging. Your age aside, further loss of CoQ10 is caused by stress, illness or the use of certain medications such as statins.
In fact, the WORST culprit is statin drugs. It is now estimated that 1 in 3 adults over 50 take a statin. Meanwhile, few doctors warn their patients that by taking a statin to “help” their heart, they are in fact slowly draining their heart of the very fuel it needs for optimal health. In my opinion this is a shame, since so many people’s heart health is being needlessly jeopardized at the hands of their own doctors.
Crinum Latifolium – Prostate health.
Vitamin D3 – Boosts immune system by 300-500%. 50,000 IU accompanied by 30 ppm nanosilver hydrosol cured prostate cancer.

DMAE – Boosts alertness and clarity of thinking, improves mood. Take early in day.
Vitamin E – Antioxidant, synergistic with vitmain C, skin and heart health.
Fish oil – Omega 3 fatty acids

PQQ – a remarkably strong antioxidant that shields the mitochondria in your heart from the stress of making all that energy. PQQ activates the genes that give birth to new power generators in your cells. Mice had 55% more mitochondria after being supplemented with PQQ. PQQ stimulates the natural production of nerve growth factor, which triggers the growth of new brain cells. PQQ also relieves the stress on your brain cells called excitotoxicity. This is the over-stimulation of brain cells that causes senility and loss of memory as you get older. Best taken with CoQ10.
Resveratrol – potent antioxidant, anti-cancer and anti-aging.
Saw Palmetto – Prostate health.
Vinpocetine – improves blood flow to the brain, improves memory, makes it easier for the brain to use glucose and oxygen, and allows the brain to survive longer and better after periods of oxygen deprivation.
Zinc – hair loss, immune system booster, prostate cancer preventer.
