Microsoft is issuing a security update to fix a record 64 vulnerabilities, including a months-old MHTML flaw. Of the 17 patches, nine are rated critical and eight are important, according to Microsoft. They cover flaws in Windows, Office, Internet Explorer, Visual Studio and more. http://www.itnews.com.au/News/253991,record-64-flaws-to-be-fixed-on-patch-tuesday.aspx
File format attacks exploit the integrity of a file, and occur when the structure of a file is modified with the intent of adding malicious code. The MS Office 2010 file validation tool scans and validates Office files for malformed data before they are opened by users. Microsoft has extended the Office 2010 tool designed to detect file format exploits to certain Office 2007 and 2003 editions. http://www.itnews.com.au/News/254359,microsoft-cracks-down-on-file-format-attacks.aspx No longer satisfied with buying iron ore and coal from Australian mining companies, Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton, China is developing its own mining operations, funding a port with a mile-long breakwater jutting into the Indian Ocean. http://cryptogon.com/?p=21766 Business, telecoms and IT courses for workers aged 50 and above. http://www.itnews.com.au/News/254243,feds-extend-funding-for-mature-age-training.aspx Victoria Inness-Brown conducted a personal two and a half-year experiment on the effects of aspartame, probably the worst of the artificial sweeteners on the market.
A new paper shows that consuming genetically modified (GM) corn or soybeans leads to significant organ disruptions in rats and mice, particularly in livers and kidneys. By reviewing data from 19 animal studies, Professor Gilles-Eric Séralini and others reveal that 9% of the measured parameters, including blood and urine biochemistry, organ weights, and microscopic analyses (histopathology), were significantly disrupted in the GM-fed animals. The kidneys of males fared the worst, with 43.5% of all the changes. The liver of females followed, with 30.8%. The report, published in Environmental Sciences Europe on March 1, 2011, confirms that “several convergent data appear to indicate liver and kidney problems as end points of GMO diet effects.” The authors point out that livers and kidneys “are the major reactive organs” in cases of chronic food toxicity. Manning is subjected to utter isolation that can drive many people insane, with short periods each day where he is stripped naked and abused by jeering inmates. The losses this winter in the Arctic’s fragile ozone atmospheric layer strongly exceeded the previous seasonal loss of about 30 per cent, the UN’s World Meteorological Organisation in Geneva said. http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/world/9146135/ozone-layer-drops-record-40-over-arctic/Microsoft cracks down on file format attacks

The GM soybean and corn varieties used in the feeding trials “constitute 83% of the commercialized GMOs” that are currently consumed by billions of people. While the findings may have serious ramifications for the human population, the authors demonstrate how a multitude of GMO-related health problems could easily pass undetected through the superficial and largely incompetent safety assessments that are used around the world. http://cryptogon.com/?p=21734Self-Funded Study Found HUGE Tumors from Aspartame

Help Stop the Torture
The US Constitution forbids “cruel and unusual punishment”. And, along with almost a hundred other countries, the US has signed an international convention promising to treat all prisoners “with humanity and with respect for the inherent dignity of the human person”. But today Bradley Manning is utterly isolated in a cell without sheets, not allowed to exercise and is being subjected to brutal humiliation that is causing serious mental harm. This violates US and international law.
Obama promised Americans and the world that he would protect, not persecute, whistleblowers: “Often the best source of information about waste, fraud, and abuse in government is an existing government employee committed to public integrity and willing to speak out. Such acts of courage and patriotism, which can sometimes save lives and often save taxpayer dollars, should be encouraged rather than stifled.”
