Believe it or not the sink is not the cleanest of food storage containers! Probably better to do this in a bowl. Or first clean the sink very well. After the soak, rinse in some water to which some hydrogen peroxide is added. Do not mix hydrogen peroxide and vinegar into the same container. The resulting compound, peracetic acid, can turn lead into powder!
