Amnesty International says:
We warned Brazil’s government months ago: inaction against illegal intruders on Indigenous Amazonian lands would cost people, and the earth, dearly.
Yet instead of supporting those who protect the forest, President Bolsonaro’s government has deliberately cut funding to organisations which monitor and defend it.
Without these vital organisations, Brazil’s President Bolsonaro has given a green light to intruders in the Amazon who are illegally seizing lands, setting the forest ablaze and intimidating the communities who live there.
Call on Brazil to immediately reinstate funding to the organisations defending the Amazon.
