I personally see it from a quite different perspective. To me, childhood is not the first stage of a rocket that is to be jettisoned during the next stage of life; it is the seed from which the mature plant grows &#8211; the acorn that is parent to the mighty oak. Childhood is close to the core of a being, and woe to him who cannot communicate with his core.<br \/>\nTHERE ONCE WAS A DUCK II<br \/>\nby Tom Fair \u00a9 24 June 2010<br \/>\nThere once was a duck who thought he was a bear<br \/>\nHe didn\u2019t have paws and he didn\u2019t have hair<br \/>\nHis mama tried to tell him, but he didn\u2019t really care.<br \/>\n\u201cQuack, quack, quack!\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m a bear!\u201d<br \/>\nThere once was a duck who thought he was a cow<br \/>\nHe tried to say \u201cmoo\u201d but he didn\u2019t know how<br \/>\nHe thought he was a cat, but he couldn\u2019t meow.<br \/>\n\u201cQuack, quack, quack!\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m a cow!\u201d<br \/>\nThere once was a duck who thought he was a lion<br \/>\nThe duck couldn\u2019t roar but he just kept tryin\u2019<br \/>\nAll night long, you could hear him cryin\u2019<br \/>\n\u201cQuack, quack! Quack, quack! I\u2019m a lion!\u201d<br \/>\nAll the other animals thought he was a silly goat,<br \/>\nThe dog and the pig and the frog and the billy goat.<br \/>\n\u201cSorry, little fella, you\u2019re simply outta luck;<br \/>\nYou\u2019ll never be nothin\u2019 but a crazy little duck!\u201d<br \/>\nThe poor little duck, he sat down and cried.<br \/>\nHis heart was broken and his dreams had died.<br \/>\nHe\u2019d lost his courage and he\u2019d lost his pride,<br \/>\nThe fun was gone\u2026 he just couldn\u2019t go on\u2026<br \/>\nBut the wise old owl who was sittin\u2019 in a tree<br \/>\nSaid \u201cListen, little duck, just listen to me!<br \/>\nYou can be anything you really wanna be:<br \/>\nA bear or a lion or an owl like me;<br \/>\nA butterfly, a pony, a banana or a bee;<br \/>\nA river or a mountain or the deep blue sea.\u201d<br \/>\nThe duck jumped up as high as he could,<br \/>\nAnd he looked down over the neighborhood.<br \/>\nHis heart did a dance, he was filled with elation<br \/>\nAt the endless joy of his imagination!<br \/>\n\u201cThank you, Mister Owl,\u201d he said with a smile.<br \/>\nNow, I think I\u2019ll be a duck for just a little while.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is gold!
