It was 629 AD.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The young monk, Xuanzang, was now an outlaw.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

He had just violated a direct imperial decree. The Tang Emperor Taizong had forbidden all travel beyond the western frontiers.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The punishment for disobedience was severe.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
But Xuanzang had made his choice. He walked west, alone, into the gathering dusk.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
