Some accounts, including her own obituary, credit Crum\u2019s sister, Kate Speck Wicks, with the invention.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, George Crum never publicly disputed his sister\u2019s claim during his lifetime, adding another layer to the chip&#8217;s origin.<\/p>\n<p>The popular &#8220;spite&#8221; narrative, while dramatic, lacks strong contemporary documentation from the 1850s.
