They saw her in the library<\/div>\n
Discarded on a chair<\/div>\n
And her glossy, shiny cover<\/div>\n
Made them notice she was there<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
They picked her up and held her<\/div>\n
For a minute, maybe three<\/div>\n
And they said she was exquisite<\/div>\n
The most beautiful they\u2019d seen<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
They thought not of her pages<\/div>\n
Simply stared at her in awe<\/div>\n
Then they put her on the bookshelf<\/div>\n
As they headed out the door<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
So they never knew the words she chose<\/div>\n
To mark her journey\u2019s start<\/div>\n
And they didn\u2019t read the reams and reams<\/div>\n
Of kindness at her heart<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
They didn\u2019t read the things she hid<\/div>\n
In pages left untouched<\/div>\n
Or the hellos and goodbyes she\u2019d said<\/div>\n
To people that she loved<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
They didn\u2019t read the chapters<\/div>\n
Where she set herself apart<\/div>\n
And they never read the lines she wrote<\/div>\n
Of how they\u2019d played their part<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
They didn\u2019t turn the pages<\/div>\n
On her struggles and her strengths<\/div>\n
And they missed the ripped-up paper<\/div>\n
Where she\u2019d torn herself to shreds<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
They never read the parts<\/div>\n
About the places she had been<\/div>\n
Or the people she had helped<\/div>\n
Or all the wonders she had seen<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
So when anybody asked them<\/div>\n
What it was that she was like<\/div>\n
They realised they had no idea<\/div>\n
What she was like inside<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
See, they\u2019d told her she was beautiful<\/div>\n
Because of how she looked<\/div>\n
But they\u2019d just admired her cover<\/div>\n
And they\u2019d never read her book<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
