When the mind/body combo are well rested there is often far less carb craving. The mechanics are as follows. The hormone ghrelin, produced in the intestines, stimulates appetite. The hormone leptin, made by fat cells, signals the brain when you are full. Lack of sleep causes ghrelin levels to go up and leptin levels to go down. A Stanford University study confirmed these hormonal differences. As expected, the sleep deficient also had more body fat – which correlated with their sleep patterns. It’s a vicious cycle, one that can be very difficult to break. Just know that there are 10s of millions if not 100s of millions of people just in the US alone experiencing the same issues.

The good news?
