The postulates were formulated by Robert Koch and Friedrich Loeffler in 1884, based on earlier concepts described by Jakob Henle, and refined and published by Koch in 1890. <\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\">The four are:<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New, monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #222222;\">1. T<\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\">he microorganism or other pathogen must be present in all cases of the disease<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New, monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">2. The pathogen can be isolated from the diseased host and grown in pure culture<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New, monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">3. The pathogen from the pure culture must cause the disease when inoculated into a healthy, susceptible laboratory animal<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Courier New, monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">4.
