Here’s a definition from https://eforms.com/living-will/:

A Living Will, also known as an “Advance Directive”, allows a person to state their end-of-life medical treatment and care. This document does not hold any bearings after death, it solely directs physicians to care for a person based on what is stated in their Living Will, especially with issues such as DNR (do not resuscitate). Without this document, it’s difficult to judge an ill or incapacitated person’s end-of-life wishes.

Medical Power of Attorney – Allows a person to select an “Agent” to make health care decisions when the patient cannot speak for themselves (due to surgery, incapacitation, or incompetence).)

From Stacie Moore on Facebook:
My aunt was admitted to St Heliers hospital 2 days ago for an infection, she has a complicated health history and this was just another infection, she’s had many many before and it’s usually sorted with some IV antibiotics. She was taken directly into a coronavirus ward & placed on there. We panicked and said she is immune compromised, why would you put her there? They said to us “she has the virus” – despite not testing her or her showing any signs of the virus! We asked for a coronavirus test to confirm what they’re saying, it came back negative but they have told us even tho she tests negative, it isn’t correct because the tests aren’t accurate and she “definitely has corona”. They’ve now refused to give her any antibiotics or treatment and said she is end of life. This is somebody who went into hospital for a course of antibiotics which she desperately needed, they’re now saying sorry it’s definitely corona which we can’t treat because she’s “so unwell”, so instead we’ll give her lots of sedation to keep her comfortable. When she dies they’ll put coronavirus as her cause of death, despite there being NO evidence of this. Something really isn’t adding up, I’ve heard of this happening to people but until it happens close to you it doesn’t feel real.

EDIT – There’s a few absolute morons who are saying my post is fake because I have no friends on Facebook and no other posts. This is absolutely ridiculous, my Facebook is set to private so unless you’re my friend you can’t see the majority of my profile. Comments are also coming in every few minutes and I can’t keep up/reply to them all. This has got way more attention than I ever expected it to, I wrote this not for sympathy or attention, but to educate people and hopefully prevent anyone else going through this because it is a living nightmare. As soon as she went into a&e, they sedated her – this means because we are not power of attorney we have NO SAY over her care, PLEASE do not let them sedate anybody you know if they go into hospital, it allows the hospital to take full control of their care & make decisions for them because they aren’t awake to make decisions for themselves.

(Tom: One of the things you should so as a matter of importance is to create a living will or power of attorney document to specifiy your wishes in these circumstances.
