{"id":18249,"date":"2018-03-14T09:12:46","date_gmt":"2018-03-13T23:12:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tomgrimshaw.com\/tomsblog\/?p=18249"},"modified":"2018-03-14T09:12:46","modified_gmt":"2018-03-13T23:12:46","slug":"a-letter-from-the-post-office-this-is-absolutely-the-best","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tomgrimshaw.com\/tomsblog\/?p=18249","title":{"rendered":"A letter from the Post Office&#8230;this is absolutely the best!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We don&#8217;t know who replied, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office<br \/>\nOur 14-year-old dog Abbey died last month.<br \/>\nThe day after she passed away my 4-year-old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey.<br \/>\nShe asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her.<br \/>\nI told her that I thought we could so, and she dictated these words:<br \/>\nDear God,<br \/>\nWill you please take care of my dog?<br \/>\nShe died yesterday and is with you in heaven.<br \/>\nI miss her very much.<br \/>\nI &#8216;m happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.<br \/>\nI hope you will play with her.<br \/>\nShe likes to swim and play with balls.<br \/>\nI am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog.<br \/>\nI really miss her.<br \/>\nLove, Meredith<br \/>\nWe put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey &#038; Meredith , addressed it to God\/Heaven.<br \/>\nWe put our return address on it.<br \/>\nMeredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office.<br \/>\nA few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet.<br \/>\nI told her that I thought He had.<br \/>\nYesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, &#8216;To Meredith&#8217; in an unfamiliar hand.<br \/>\nMeredith opened it.<br \/>\nInside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, &#8216;When a Pet Dies.&#8217;<br \/>\nTaped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope.<br \/>\nOn the opposite page was the picture of Abbey &#038; Meredith and this note:<br \/>\nDear Meredith,<br \/>\nAbbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help and I recognized her right away.<br \/>\nAbbey isn&#8217;t sick anymore.<br \/>\nHer spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart.<br \/>\nAbbey loved being your dog.<br \/>\nSince we don&#8217;t need our bodies in heaven, I don&#8217;t have any pockets to keep your picture in so I&#8217;m sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.<br \/>\nThank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me.<br \/>\nWhat a wonderful mother you have.<br \/>\nI picked her especially for you.<br \/>\nI send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.<br \/>\nBy the way, I&#8217;m easy to find.<br \/>\nI am wherever there is love.<br \/>\nLove,<br \/>\nGod<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We don&#8217;t know who replied, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office Our 14-year-old dog Abbey died last month.
