Several<br \/>\nCouples fell in love that day in Central Park.<br \/>\nA twelve year old boy found out<br \/>\nAbout Walk Whitman in the main<br \/>\nPublic Library at Fifth Avenue<br \/>\nAnd 42nd Street.<br \/>\nBig ocean liners were docked<br \/>\nIn the harbour on the West Side.<br \/>\nA young man sweetly played<br \/>\nHis violin on the corner of<br \/>\n42nd and 8th Avenue.<br \/>\nThe Staten Island ferry moved<br \/>\nAway from the dock. The diamond<br \/>\nDealer intently eyed a gem<br \/>\nThrough his glass on 47th Street<br \/>\nAs he had done for generations.<br \/>\nUptown on West 86th Street<br \/>\nNear Broadway a sweet old<br \/>\nWoman sighed deeply<br \/>\nAnd smiled and breathed<br \/>\nHer last breath. A boy child<br \/>\nWas born in Brooklyn.<br \/>\nThe taxi drivers weaved<br \/>\nBetween the lanes.<br \/>\nSomebody ordered a large<br \/>\nCoffee regular, hold the sugar.<br \/>\nThree teenage boys sang<br \/>\nA cappella at the corner<br \/>\nOf Willis Avenue and<br \/>\n143rd Street in the South<br \/>\nBronx. A crowd gathered,<br \/>\nThey were magnificent.<br \/>\nIn my world all<br \/>\nWas still. Everything.<br \/>\nAround me was pervaded<br \/>\nWith a calm I do not<br \/>\nRemember ever having experienced.<br \/>\nI felt a love for everyone I<br \/>\nSaw no matter who they were.<br \/>\nI was astounded by<br \/>\nBeauty all around me<br \/>\nThough it was the same<br \/>\n32nd Street, the same<br \/>\nBroadway on which I had<br \/>\nAlways walked.<br \/>\nI felt a kindness,<br \/>\nA compassion,<br \/>\nA tolerance, an openness,<br \/>\nA hope, a confidence unlike<br \/>\nAnything I had ever known.<br \/>\nAnd I knew that everything<br \/>\nWas going to be alright, that<br \/>\nAll would be well, that<br \/>\nI was ok and that I<br \/>\nWould continue to be ok.<br \/>\nOn the day that I gained<br \/>\nCertainty that I was<br \/>\nA Spirit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the day I gained certainty that I was A spirit, the subway went up Lexington Avenue as it had always done.
