So I understand why you&#8217;d take anything you could to make the pain and irritation go away.<br \/>\nBut if you turn to some of the most popular acid-blocking drugs on the market, you could be setting yourself up for permanent organ damage.<br \/>\nOr even early death.<br \/>\nA new study from Johns Hopkins found that people who take proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) could be up to 50 per cent more likely to suffer from chronic kidney disease.<br \/>\nThat&#8217;s alarming, because people who suffer from chronic kidney disease may not notice any symptoms before it&#8217;s too late and their kidneys stop working altogether.<br \/>\nEven worse, another recent study looked at PPI users and found that they were 76 per cent more likely to die early.<br \/>\nThat&#8217;s not surprising when you look at how these drugs work.<br \/>\nYou see, PPIs don&#8217;t just block stomach acid. They keep your body from properly absorbing nutrients like B12, vitamin C, magnesium and calcium, all things you need for a healthy heart, brain, bones and immune system.<br \/>\nSo while these PPIs may give you some short-term heartburn relief, they can set your health on a dangerous downward spiral.<br \/>\nIf you&#8217;ve ever taken PPIs for any length of time, it&#8217;s probably a good idea to have your doctor check the health of your kidneys through blood and urine tests.<br \/>\nAnd for natural heartburn relief, look for proven supplements like peppermint, liquorice, and probiotics that can help control stomach acid and settle your stomach. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From a Nutrition and Healing newsletter: Heartburn can be agonizing.
