Digital Dementia Summit

I received this email:
Hi Tom,

Could screen use be shrinking our children’s brains?

I know it sounds crazy doesn’t it.

But children in the US average 7 hours of screen use a day and check their phones 85 times a day!

As someone who doesn’t even own a cell phone, this makes my head spin.

Studies tell us just 2 hours a day of screen time can impact a child’s brain function.

It rewires their brain’s neural circuitry. Increased screen time neglects the circuits in the brain that control more traditional methods for learning in the frontal lobe that are typically used for reading, writing and concentration.

This abuse of digital technology is resulting in the breakdown of cognitive abilities in a way that is traditionally seen in people who have suffered a head injury or Alzheimer’s disease.

Kids with Alzheimer’s symptoms?

It doesn’t even bear thinking about.

Digital dementia.

It’s the term that was coined by neuroscientist Manfred Spitzer to describe this phenomenon.

Author and speaker Dr. Krista Burns has been educating practitioners about the dangers of digital dementia for over 5 years.

And she’s been sharing solutions because fortunately, there are things you can do.

Less screen time is the obvious one.

But think of the brain as a muscle, with proper stimulation children can strengthen their “brain muscle”.

Dr. Kristina has created a FREE online event— The Digital Dementia Summit.

She’s brought together a massive panel — I counted some 60 experts — to explore the dangers and share solutions.

There are lot’s of talks on how to improve brain health and a couple of speakers also address the EMF question.
